I have a 2000 volkswagon jetta 2.0L. It will start fine, as I drive i feel the engine kinda losing power. Then I start to slow down or come to a stop sign or red light and it dies. It will crank but won't turn over. I let it sit for about 30 minutes and it will start right back up. I already replaced the camshaft sensor and no change. The stalling is getting more frequent with longer wait times before I can start it again
Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the fuel supply? And are all the spark plugs working?
Yeah
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Jetta yourself? What have you tried so far?
Yes I am. I've already checked fuses and spark plugs the camshaft sensor was replaced I tried to put in OBD2 reader on it but it says that my port isn't working so I can't even put it on a scanner

I would measure the fuel pressure with a gauge. Or, when it wont start, try some starting fluid in the intake and see if it tries to start. It sounds like the fuel pump is failing. Hope this helps, thank you.

I had a mechanic check it cuz that was the first thing I thought. He said he can hear it priming tooit seems like the car shuts off when the engine gets to a certain temperature cuz I can drive up like a mile or two before it shuts off or when I'm idlingWhat am I looking at a stop sign or at a red light it'll shut off if I'm there too long

I need to know the exact fuel pressure when it will not start. If he did not give you a pressure reading, he did not test it correctly. The only other thing that could cause this would be a restricted exhaust ( plugged converter). I am extremely familiar with these cars.
There also could be related fault codes, but you mentioned a issue with the obd port. This can be caused by a aftermarket radio. Hope this helps, thank you.

Okay so I just bought a crankshaft sensor should I return it then since you don't think that's what it is I'll go have somebody else test the fuel pump

It could be the crank sensor. The best way to tell that is to check the tachometer while cranking when it will not start. If the tach does not come up, its the crank sensor or wiring ( I have replaced several crank sensors on these).
Like I mentioned before, a quick test of the fuel system, is to try a little starting fluid in the intake when it will not run. If it coughs or starts and dies, its a fuel pressure problem.
