Have a land rover free lander 2003, bought it last weekend brought it home no problem, recent seviced, yesterdy when i pulled up outside my house the engine management light came on and i didnt use it again until this morning, i got in it and when i turned the ignition it made a clunk noise and then wouldnt turn over but made a whinning noise each time i turned the key. a couple of points, when i collected the car last sunday the man said he had done oil and water etc, so i had no reason to check, however for some reason this motring i decided to check and there was oil but no water !!!! my fault for not checking when i collected, second point is that since picking it up i have had trouble with the alarm and immobilizer it takes several attempts to disarm the jeep and several combinatioona of the fob and key then eventually it will dis arm it could be posible the immobilizer isnt fully disarming or battery/alternator/starter issues ?

Hello im here to assist you, it sounds like the starter motor is faulty, the water loss could be head gasket , this model and engine is proned to this.. Please top water up and see if you can see a leak, if not have the head gasket tested...The starter motor needs removing and bendix cleaning and bench testing...Please keep me informed on progress....

If its the head gasket you wont see the water because it goes out the exhaust from cylinders. Head gasket test will tell you straight away, if it s the head gasket have the cylinder head skimmed and crack tested this is very common on this engine...

The OBD scanner will not tell you this, you need a correct head gasket tester it reads the co gases in the water system... The gasket job will cost £1000 to £1200 .Sorry , canyou return the vehicle..
Until its tested we will not know....
Still not sure what you need?
Have a certified mobile mechanic diagnose what's wrong with your car, at your home or office.
There is most likely a problem with one of the sensors on your engine. Depending on which sensor fails, and how it is failing, signals may be sent to the computer that can make the transmission shift harder because it...

If it's running rich, it can easily flood the engine out and cause it to burn oil. So I would work on that first. But that said, realize that the only thing you are testing the engine compression is the...
Hi. It sounds like the heater core is clogged and restricting the flow of coolant in the coolant system. There is also the possibility that the new radiator is defective (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-radiator) and is causing the car to overheat. The head...
There is a problem with your brakes or the ABS that is turning this light on. A code reader should tell you what specifically is the problem. Most likely, a wheel speed sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/wheel-speed-sensor-replacement) is dirty or has failed. This...

This may be a sign of a clogged catalytic converter. As you may already know, the catalytic converter converts toxic exhaust gases into less harmful pollutants that are suitable to be expelled into the atmosphere. When this is clogged, this...
