2008 Jag XF 2.7d smart key is stuck in the slot. Taken spare key to try to start car, but message @remove smart key from slot@ Key will not come out.
Mechanic's Assistant: Can you turn the steering wheel at all? And what about the key? Is it worn or damaged?
No. Steering wheel is locked
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your XF yourself? What have you tried so far?
My son is with the car. I'm at home. Tried using spare key to lock the car, then try starting, alarm goes off.
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
I don't think so..!

I'm sorry to hear you are having this problem. I know this can be frustrating.
Without knowing all of the information like the vehicle history, the components that have been tested or replaced, and the results of any tests that need to be run, I can only give you a general answer to your question.
The first thing that needs to be checked is to make sure the vehicle battery has a good charge in it. If it is low on voltage that will cause this issue to occur and the voltage issue has to be resolved.
If the battery is found to be o.k. then the fault with the key being stuck in the slot can be due to the vehicle not in the park position or an issue with the ignition slot that it enters into needing to be replaced.
The vehicle will need to be inspected further to identify the source of the fault so it can be repaired properly.

Most of the time when the AC stops working, it is because of a leak. The refrigerant system is a sealed system that is under pressure. If the pressure sensors detect the system is low, it will keep the compressor...
Although a number of different things could be causing this issue, I would say the most likely cause would be an issue with the steering angle sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-steering-angle-sensor). The steering angle sensor is the only part I can think of...
The first thing I would recommend doing after seeing a warning like that on your vehicle is to check the engine oil level (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-check-your-engine-oil). When the oil level goes low, this can cause the oil pressure to go low as...
Hey there, thank you for asking about your 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Disconnecting the battery while the vehicle is running can damage the Powertrain Control Module (aka, vehicle "brain" or "engine computer") or other electrical components due to voltage excursions...
There should not be ANY leaks or seepage. One obvious thing to check is the drain plug/gasket (if equipped). It is also possible that fluid is leaking past the transmission oil pan gasket if the pan was removed and a...
I would suspect that that there is a problem with the socket for the light bulb (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/reverse-light-bulb-replacement). Corrosion will build up in the bulb socket and not allow power, or ground, to get to the bulb. If the bulb is...
This may be a sign of a weak battery, a failing voltage regulator or failing alternator. As you may know, the alternator is responsible for charging the battery while the engine runs by generating amperage and recharging the battery while...
Hi there if the fuse for the turn signals and hazard warning lights is good, the flasher unit (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-hazard-turn-signal-flasher) - same integrated unit services both functions - is likely bad, and should be replaced. I would recommend a turn signal/hazard...
