Mechanic's Assistant: Is this your first time dealing with this issue? What size is your [engine](/topics-engine-toyota/)?
Yes it is. I'm not sure the engine size, but its an '04 toyota [camry](/topics-camry/)
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Spark yourself? What have you tried so far?
I haven't tried anything so far, just researching my repair options
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
I am trying to decide whether to junk the car or fix it

According to the service quote I received, it needs replacing ignition coils, spark plugs, and valve cover gaskets to just get it to be driveable again. Outside of that, it needs new [struts](/topics-strut/) and shocks in front and back and alignment. It has 242,000 miles on it currently and running is worth around $3k. I was quoted $1,012 for the ignition coils and spark plugs, and another $134 for the valve cover gasket, and $2300 for the shocks/struts. Are those costs typical or higher than they should be?

The valve covers and tune up stuff is decent , a little high on that but not too much but on the shocks and struts are a little high, if you go with aftermarket parts it should be about half of that cost.

Is the aftermarket parts something I request at a shop, or need to buy myself and bring?

you can do both, if you go to rock auto you can buy all your own parts and that would help save a lot of money

For ignition coils on RockAuto, are there multiple components to buy separately or does it come all together as 1?

those will be single units, so if your a v6 you will need 6, I recomend ngk, hitachi, denso or delphi
