The exhaust system sounds loud upon starting up. When press foot on accelerator, the sound inside the cabin is unbearable. Sound is more concentrated towards the front of the car. No fume smells inside car. Sporadically, service engine soon comes on. What could be the possible problem? What are the costs involved?
My car has an automatic transmission.

Noise from engine or exhaust Inspection $94.99 - $114.99 Get a Quote

Loud exhaust noise could be due to deterioration or breakage of the internal baffles in components such as the resonator and muffler as well as leaks at pipe joints or even at the manifold on the engine. To determine the full extent of the repairs required requires an on site inspection and that inspection can be performed on a mobile basis right at your location. To schedule that service please use YourMechanic’s exhaust noise diagnostic service request page. With regard to the check engine light, typically if the light illuminates there will be stored trouble codes that can be downloaded. If you schedule a mechanic for the exhaust work, I’m sure he or she will be happy to read the codes and assist you in understanding what they mean as well as give you an idea of the required diagnostic and possible repairs. Exhaust leaks (not to mention the extreme noise you mention) are dangerous and so repairing the exhaust system should be your first priority. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic because we want you to make the most of your repair dollars and help you to get the best possible results.
