Last night I was driving about 45 miles per hour. Approaching a free way exit. When I lightly tapped on my breaks. Immediately all the lights of my dash came on and my wheels locked. My break pedal became unresponsive and I began to slide. It took several seconds for my cars breaks to respond. Finally they did and they released. After my car finally gained traction. My car started driving normally but all the lights on my dash continued to stay lite. Except my parking break light. It was blinking.
Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked your brake fluid? The reservoir is located under the hood near the dash.
Yes. It is slightly below the max line
Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car?
Subaru Legacy 2015
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Legacy yourself? What have you tried so far?
I took it in to a dealership. They told me they checked the ABS system. That it is functioning the way it should. That, it detected too much slippage. And as a safety feature. When there is too much slippage the ABS system will cause my tires to lock.
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
They say my front tire tread is 3 32nd and rear tires are at 2 and 32nd. So they are telling me I just need to replace my tires. That there is nothing wrong with the ABS system.

Good Afternoon, my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* ill be helping you, so sorry to hear about the issues here on the Subaru, i know how frustrating it can be to deal with brake related issues. I agree with your dealer about it being the ABS system that engaged due to safety reasons by the way you describe the issues. If the tires were worn unevenly the wheel [speed sensors](/topics-speed-sensor/) would read slightly differently and the ABS system detects that as slip and then takes over control of the brakes like you had there, If they ran diagnostics and found no codes set then i also agree that it should be a matter of replacing the tires and the system should not longer engage unless it needs to.

I just didn't know an ABS system would actually cause your breaks/wheels to lock.Up to now. I've only experienced the break pump. Or stop break stop safety feature of it.

Okay. So. I still take my tires to a Subaru dealership for regular servicing and tire rotation. So I thought they'd keep an eye on that for me. Do I have to request something specialIf so, what do I ask for?
Daniel Chaidez

Automotive Expert
no, just the regular tire servicing

But it didn't prevent the uneven wearing this time. :(.
Okay. I'll get new tires and just ask them to pay extra attention to recommended rotations.
