The crankshaft damper pulley is not aligned with the pulleys of the alternator, steering pump, air-conditioner and idler. Subaru Outback 2001, 2.5 liter. Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the Freon level? Nope. Running without the belt that drives the air conditioner pump does not remove the noise Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Outback yourself? What have you tried so far? I replaced the belts. One was broken. Flushed the steering pump oil too. The problem is that the drive pulley is 1/4 inch off. Retracted info the engine block. The drive belts don't run correctly on the pulleys

You should inspect the crank pulley. Commonly the rubber that is embedded into the crank pulley for vibration dampening, comes apart. It allows the outer piece of the pulley to slip either forwards or back. Likely the crank pulley needs to be replaced. The site does offer an optional phone call. Just decline that as I am not available for a call now anyway.

I know this info already. Thanks for confirming. Was trying to get a mechanic at home to fix it. Wrong site, sorry
