The Aveo’s computer needs to "see" the brake light switch input, in order to switch out of park. With the key on and engine off, the brake lights need to be checked to see if they are coming on when the brake pedal is checked. If not, the brake light circuit will need to be diagnosed; is issue is most likely with the brake light switch. If the brake lights work, then you may have another issue, possibly with the shifter, or transmission.
