Hi there:

The P0894 code is an OBD-II trouble code signaling a problem with the transmission component slipping. The powertrain control module (PCM) is responsible for altering the gear rations of the automatic transmission, as this helps control the vehicle’s speed, acceleration, fuel economy, and overall engine performance. When the ratio is one of the vehicle’s gears is not perceived to be consistent with the what the PCM is dictating, the P0894 trouble code will be detected. However, it’s very common for low transmission fluid to trigger this error code; but that’s only if you’ve noticed a transmission leak. It might be a good idea to have a mobile mechanic complete a check engine light inspection so they can download all error codes to determine if there are other issues that can be repaired without rebuilding your transmission.
