asked by on November 26, 2016

All the lights, radio is working. My car just will not start. I tried jumping it to see if it would start and nothing. Do you think it is my starter?

This may be related to many different possibilities, some of which may be related to a lack of spark and some of which may be related to a fuel delivery problem or a combination of both. For example, if the ignition coils, crankshaft position sensor, spark plugs, spark plug wires or ignition module are faulty, this may cause the motor to not produce the spark needed to ignite the fuel in the motor. If this is related to the starter not working, you may hear a slight clicking noise. This tends to happen when the starter solenoid is not working properly.

If there is a fuel delivery problem, this may be related to low fuel pressure, faulty or dirty fuel injectors, a faulty or dirty idle air control valve (this relays information about air intake to the computer which makes fuel adjustments), or potentially a faulty fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump. Fuel delivery problems will typically not allow the proper amount of fuel to be delivered to the cylinders which results in a lean fuel condition which can cause backfiring or simply cause the motor not to start as a result of fuel starvation. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose your no start problem.

Check Engine light comes on randomly now, not happy about it
I would recommend going back to the person that replaced the plugs to see if there is a warranty issue for the repairs needed. You will need to have the vehicle's computer scanned as well as diagnosis of any codes....
Oil under car
Oil leaks generally will become worse over time. Locations where leaks commonly develop are at the valve cover, oil pan or camshaft and crankshaft seals. The source of the oil leak will need to be located, and then the leak...

Car shakes and hesitates upon acceleration.
A weak battery will cause all of the electronics to fail. If this was the case, you would have hard steering and radio malfunctions as well. Where is the fuel filter? 2002 Dodge Dakota
Hi - the fuel filter (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-long-does-a-fuel-filter-last_2) on this puppy is mounting on the top of the fuel tank, between the tank and the truck bed. REALLY painful location. That part also includes the fuel pressure regulator - hence the location...
Drove car with little 2 no oil & made pop noise & started smoking then adventually died
Little to no oil may have damaged internal engine components. Timing chain tensioners for example, are typically oil pressure fed. They rely on the proper oil level and pressure to maintain correct tension on the timing chains. Incorrect tension can...
i think my gear shift is broken because it is very loose. and car won't start
It's possible the linkage, or cable, is faulty which could explain the no start because if the linkage is not in the proper position the neutral start safety switch might not work. To determine the exact problem, please request a...
My car would start and turn off. I was told by dealership that I had a bad fuel pump driver module. When replaced it did not fix
I would suggest having the alternator (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/alternator-replacement) checked to determine if it is receiving the proper amount of voltage from something called the voltage regulator. The voltage regulator regulates the charging voltage that the alternator produces, keeping it between 13.5...
