It’s confusing the car gave me a P0017 code so I change my crankshaft sensor I’ve change my camshaft sensors I’ve had my oil changed and my transmission fluid flushed upon them doing a diagnostic and gave me camshaft sensors before I change them again. Now it’s giving me the same thing 0017 code at the resetting the codes
Mechanic's Assistant: Have you seen this code before? Have you tried a hard reset?
We did a reset with the OBD two reader what is a hard reset I haven’t disconnected my battery and I read somewhere that you can take a fuse out
Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your transmissions?
I have a 2017 Hyundai ELANTRA 2.0 L I don’t know my transmission
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Elantra yourself? What have you tried so far?
I have change the crankshaft position sensor and a camshaft position sensor’s I’ve had the fluids flushed and oil changed
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?

Hello! Welcome to JustAnswer. Thank you for contacting us for assistance with your Elantra. My name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I'll be helping you today. I'm so sorry you are having this issue with your Elantra, I know it can be frustrating.
The P0017 indicates that the timing is off from what it is supposed to be. The possible causes are that the valve timing is actually off, very dirty oil, a bad oil control valve (exhaust) or a bad CVVT Assembly (exhaust). Most commonly it is the oil control valve that is your issue, so since you have already changed the oil and filter I would recommend replacing that next.

Called Goodyear they said they weren’t willing to mess with it because the timing chain is probably messed up, with a car as new as mine.

Changed the variable valve timing solenoids. Hoping that’s what you meant by oil control valve, and still have check engine light. Hoahhh, I’m hoping it’s not the timing chain.

It's rarely the chain itself, usually its the solenoids, hyundai calls them oil control valves, but same thing. If you clear the codes and the engine light comes back, it could be the CVVT which is part of the camshaft gear. But if you have to replace that, you may as well replace the timing chain as well since it has to come off anyway and its just another like $75. Hopefully the valves resolved it.

The shop said timing chain is loose

That could be because a CVVT is stuck, so make sure the check that they can move them

I just had meineke quote me 1000.80 to replace timing chain and components but Hyundai is telling me to bring it to them because something doesn’t sound right. if I knew how to change all of it myself, I would. Don’t want to keep paying money to have it looked at for them to potentially tell me the same thing.

Yeah I would definitely bring it to Hyundai, shops like meineke aren't good for bigger jobs or complicated diagnosis like this
Still not sure what you need?

Hi. In order for any liquid to have pressure, there has to be a restriction. The restriction in an engine is the oil clearance on the rotating parts. On a newer engine, it is roughly 0.0015 of one inch. This...

You probably did not install the distributor correctly. The position of the rotor must be noted and matched to the engine block before distributor removal, otherwise the timing will not be correct. To make things right, the #1 cylinder will...
