Hi! I've got a 2004 honda civic and multiple codes have showed up. Crank sensor, or sensor, throttle position, and system is too lean. I decided to check after the car showed symptoms of stalling for half a second as I was driving. Mechanic's Assistant: Does the vehicle stall at low speeds? Does it sputter? Not as often as high speeds. It does not sputter Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Civic yourself? What have you tried so far? I'm hoping to fix it myself. All I've done so far is check for loose grounds, some being from the battery to the fuse box and from the engine to the frame Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? No thats about all I've got

OK bare with me . Have to look up a few things.

Ok this is caused usually from the harness for the crank sensor got damaged . Also was the timing belt ever changed ?

Okay. For the 3 years I've owned the car it has not been changed . When I bought the car the mechanic had swapped the engine with a used one that only had 75k kilometers on it
Automotive Expert
Ok you need to check the crank sensor harness as well as the sensor and fuses them selves. The timing belt regardless needs to be done along with the [water pump](/topics-water-pump-honda/) as well. Once I read the engine was replaced that also brought up a red flag. A lot of times they install these engines they forget to tighten grounds as well as leaving plugs loose. So unfortunately you need to take your times check the entire engine harness make sure nothing is loose or damaged . Then check the crank sensor and harness as well as the battery grounds and fuses. I have seen these engine swaps done wrong and damage the ECMS lets hope not. Last this is a bulletin for the ELD which throws a P1298 code but not always and can cause all sorts of electrical issues. These would be the next steps. Here's the bulletin. If you need more help please use the reply tab to continue our conversation. If no further assistance is needed, please consider rating me as 5 STAR!! It is much appreciated. You can rate at any time and we can continue to work on your question as this will not close out your question. Stay Safe !!! Bonuses greatly appreciated.

Awesome thankyou for the information! Also, I removed the ground from the battery and my radio now requires a code. If I get you the info needes are you able to get me that code? Or will I have to go through a honda dealer
Automotive Expert
That's a dealer only issue unfortunately sorry. Sometimes the sticker with the code on it is on the inside of the glove box wall or owners manual.

All good. I will take a look, thanks!
