Hello. My 2008 honda civic wont crank or turn over. The lights come on but nothing else. The alarm can't be triggered. 3 days ago I was able to drive it and after I shut off the car I tried it a minute later and just the lights worked. My battery kept dying for the past week so had to keep charging it until I finally replaced it and still wont crank. I notice the negative can be wiggled free. Not sure if that could cause no crank

Hello, One moment. I will respond asap.
If you have already reinstalled the fuse you removed.
Can you test the starter relay for two points of power?
You will need someone to turn the key like they are trying to start the car while you test for power.

How do I test the relay?

With your meter. Put it in the voltage mode and test each terminal for power. One lead on the terminal the other on ground.

Okay. This will sound foolish but what is the ground?

Any metal part on the body. A bolt, anything.
No such thing as a stupid question.

Okay, any metal on the car itself?

Do I put the millimeter red wire on the battery terminal or the connector?

The relay connector and the black wire to ground.
Customer

Okay, it read 0 when I did that. I heard 1 click over by the fuse box and that's it. I put the read on the battery and put the black on a metal screw

Okay, I’m not sure what you are doing. The red probe is used to test the 4-5 terminals the relay go into. This is to see If at least two have power. The black probe goes to ground. You may have to get someone with experience to help you in person.
Still not sure what you need?
Have a certified mobile mechanic diagnose what's wrong with your car, at your home or office.
I hate to be the stereotypical dealer mechanic, but the issue may be “normal.” According to the GMC bulletin PIC6106, the display screen may reset during high load situations. This is considered normal and will most commonly happen during a...
It does not sound very fun to drive your vehicle right now! Your Fusion uses an electrically assisted power steering system, rather the standard hydraulic power steering system that is found on most cars. After doing some research on the...
This means your fuel pump is coming on like it should. The pump will cycle on for a few seconds and then turn off if you just turn the key to on. This should happen each time you cycle the...
Hello. It sounds like there may be a misfiring condition (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/is-it-safe-to-drive-with-a-misfiring-engine) in multiple cylinders. A misfire means that one or more of the spark plugs (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-bad-or-failing-spark-plugs) in the vehicle’s engine are not firing properly. This will cause the engine to...
There is a 15A fuse for the front parking light function in the fuse box under the dash. The turn signals are on a separate circuit so this is why they might still be operational when the parking lights are...
Most likely, this message is generated by a faulty wheel speed sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/wheel-speed-sensor-replacement), or fault in the brake fluid pressure (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brake-pressure-is-uneven-inspection) pump assembly. These systems are tested each time you start your car, and a fault found in this process...
Hello. In order to determine if the transmission needs to be replaced, a proper diagnosis would be required. Even if the whining noise sounds similar to that in the video, it can still be possible that the issue is caused...
Hi, thanks for writing in. I believe you're on the right track. Wheel bearing failures (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-bad-or-failing-wheel-bearings) are common on many GM vehicles particularly their trucks and SUVs. I would recommend having your wheel bearings inspected with a mechanic's stethoscope to...
Hi there. Check all of the vehicle grounds to the lighting circuits and the ignition circuits. Make sure that the grounds are cleaned and tightened. A loose ground will cause circuits to malfunction and not work correctly. If you need...
