My car has 139000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

The most common cause of erratic fuel level is caused by a defective fuel level sender in the fuel tank is defective or out of position or restricted from going all the way up to full position. I would recommend replacing the fuel sender in the fuel tank and at same time replace fuel pump and filter so you do not have to pay for additional labor in the future to replace pump or filter.
