It looks like you may have gotten busy so I will answer based on the information provided. I've been in the automotive profession for 43 years (Started in 1977 at a Dodge Dealer) Not sure what you mean by "Popping" when you turn the engine on; but no, there should be no popping noise in the exhaust, the turbo or the engine. If by popping you mean backfiring either through the Intake Manifold or the Exhaust system, that needs to be checked out immediately so as not to cause further damage to the engine (Backfiring through a manifold is indicative of a burned or mis-adjusted Valve, burned or Cracked Valve Seat, an Air Leak in the Exhaust or the Exhaust Manifold. All of those need immediate diagnosis.
If you used an Aftermarket replacement Catalytic Converter I would inspect that very closely and measure back pressure to see if that is the issue.

Thank you so I’m just checking for understanding. I should take it back to the mechanic and get him to check for pressure in the exhaust right?
