My friend was driving in 4wd off our muddy road. He stopped at the bottom and took it out of 4wd and went and unlocked his manual hubs. Got in the truck and now can't shift it out of park. It doesn't appear that the linkage is damaged or bound up, but he can't shift out of park.
Mechanic's Assistant: Do you have [brake](/topics-brake-ford/) lights? Have any trouble codes popped up?
Not that he noticed
Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car?
Not quite sure, its an old Ford I believe, like 80s f250 I think
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your F250 yourself? What have you tried so far?
I just crawled under it this afternoon for a few .instead to look and see if there was any obvious damage, and I didn't see any. Tried to get him to shift the 4wd into neutral and try the gearshift, but it wouldn't budge. Had him check the hubs make sure they were not still locked. I'm going down to work on it tomorrow so I was trying to get some ideas what to look for
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
No I think thats all I know so far

Ok, it is a ford f150 looks like late 80s/early 90s i will find out tomorrow. I will also check the brake lights. He is a new neighbor and we live up in the mountains off grid so my phone service is sketchy at best. I would really appreciate if you could give me several things to check for to help diagnose the problem because his truck is at the bottom of our 5 mile muddy treacherous driveway that we don't like to drive and tear it up if we don't have to. So if it doesn't have brake lights what then? And if it does what next?Thank you so much for your helping me, I really appreciate someone letting me pick their brain

Thanks,
The loss of the brake signal means the brake shift interlock on the steering column is not being energized. Fuse 13 under the dash powers the light green/red wire to the brake on/off switch above the pedal. When the pedal is pressed, the switch allows power to flow through and out on the light green wire. See if the concern is with those tests.
Thank you for seeking us for help, I hope I provided what was needed. Press reply if you need to follow up. If you liked my answer please let me know so I can mark your question complete. Moose
