2013 f150 5.0 Very difficult to start. Cranks for a long time before it finally turns the [engine](/topics-engine-ford/) over.
Mechanic's Assistant: Does the engine spark at all? Is there a trouble code or is your "check engine light" on?
No check engine light. It does start eventually, but struggles every time
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your F150 yourself? What have you tried so far?
I am fixing it myself. Previously the truck cranked for a long time but wouldnt start at all. I checked the fuses and the fuel fuse was melted. Replaced that and the truck started. Now when it is cold it has a lot of trouble

If the fuel fuse was melted then you'll need to check the wiring in the fuse box and at the fuel pump. The fuel pump must be pulling too many amps and needs to be replaced. Checking the wiring is essential because if the fuse was melting then the wiring may also need to be repaired to get a good contact on the fuse and fuel pump.
My goal is to give you the best service possible and to help you. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let me know. If I’m not online at the time, I will respond ASAP when I get back.

Ok, thank you. I have noticed that the problem doesn't exist when the engine is warm. Starts very hard when cold, but if I were to drive it for 15 minutes to say a gas station it would fire right back up with no issue. Still think it is a wiring problem?

I think it's a problem with the fuel pump which damaged the wiring so you'll need to check the fuel pressure on cold start. When it's warmed up it will work better.

Sorry for the delay. Our system is acting funny today. The dealer would probably charge you around $900 for parts and labor.
Still not sure what you need?
Have a certified mobile mechanic diagnose what's wrong with your car, at your home or office.
We must start by pointing out that this 2006 Honda Odyssey has 101,000 miles on its transmission and the problem might be from internal component wear. At that mileage, no manufacturer would provide any assistance for any repairs, unless it...
When your Check Engine Light comes on (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/check-engine-light-is-on-inspection) or flashes on the dash for you it is indicating there is a problem in one of the vehicle systems and has set a trouble code stored in one of the modules’...
There are a couple different types of transmissions (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-replace-transmission-fluid-by-robert-tomashek) that came on the Pacifica and one has a dipstick on the left side and the other needs a special tool to check it since it does not have a dip...
Automatics do have automatic clutches, but you have to rebuild the transmission to replace them, which on a 2011 Accord, a full rebuild starts at about 4,000 dollars. So just change the fluid in it every 30,000 miles and don't...
No, not as long as your cooling fans are working. Cars are made to run all day long with the AC on (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/4-essential-things-you-should-know-about-the-heating-and-air-conditioning-system-in-your-car). If they have the cooling fan working, sucking air over the radiator into the AC condenser. It...
Hello. It is possible that the problem is with the evaporator temperature sensor. If this fails, it can affect the efficiency of the AC system. Most of the time though, when the compressor continually works on this car it is...
Hi and thanks for contacting Your Mechanic. If the engine has a knocking noise, a sensor will not cause this issue. A timing belt will not cause a knock unless the timing belt has jumped a tooth. Other belts just...
Hello, thank you for writing in. There are several reasons your vehicle may make noises related to steering. The first thing to consider is that the steering, suspension, and brakes are all heavily related. Often you feel issues with the...
Hello, thank you for writing in. There are several systems that may be malfunctioning. You should narrow in on the charging system first. Have your battery and your alternator checked. This can be done at home or at your local...
