The 2012 Ford Explorer won’t start. It tries to start and do makes a repeated clicking sound while flashing lights. When we try to start it the [brake](/topics-brake-ford/) is also very stiff
Mechanic's Assistant: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on?
The clicking sound just sounds like it turning the dash lights on and off repeatedly while almost trying to start
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Explorer yourself? What have you tried so far?
We have tried charging the battery but that didn’t work. When the dash comes on it displays signals saying to check the brake system
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
No we just need help. We also have a nail in one of the tires and need it patched

If the lights are flashing and you hear clicking sounds then the battery is low or there is a bad electrical connection on the battery terminals. Check the voltage on the battery. It should be 12.5 volts. When trying to start it, it shouldn't drop below 9.6 volts. If it does then the battery is bad. If the voltage doesn't drop that low then your terminals will need to be cleaned and tightened.
My goal is to give you the best service possible and to help you. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let me know. If I’m not online at the time, I will respond ASAP when I get back.

The brake light switch wouldn't cause flashing lights and clicking. What is the voltage on the battery?

Ok you'll need to check it then. There's no way to tell if the battery is good unless you test it.
Still not sure what you need?
