Mechanic's Assistant: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on?
Started today bought a new crankshaft position sensor installed it correctly it sounds like it coming from the engine and making very loud bang noise
Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car?
1996 dodge [ram 1500](/topics-ram-1500/) 5.9v8
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Ram 1500 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Everything I'm at a stand still trying to get it running I finally have spark and this is what it's doing
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
That's all for now

Does it run at all? Could be a lean misfire causing that popping sound, try this, turn the key off, and spin the engine over with a socket on the crankshaft and a ratchet, does it feel normal all the way around, or does it have a tight spot in it that really is harder to spin through than the rest of the range of motion there. if it's got a real tight spot, could be internal engine damage. Also, did it shut off while driving? or just wouldn't start after sitting? Thank you.

I doubt it, you have any starting fluid? if so, spray some in the air intake in the air box, and see if it runs for a couple seconds then.

It's got gas and fuel pressure correct? You have spark to the plugs right? Next is to check for voltage at the GREEN/ORANGE wire at one of the front [fuel injectors](/topics-fuel-injector-dodge/), should have power with key on.
Do you hear the fuel pump buzz when you turn the key ON? should buzz for a couple of seconds, sometimes easiest with somebody in the truck and you put your ear to the gas filler neck with the gas cap off to hear if the fuel pump buzz when the key turns on.

Try spinning the engine over by hand a full 720 degrees to make sure nothing is locked up. Then if that checks out, I would check codes next, if it's not setting any codes, I would pull the plugs and start checking compression if it won't even hit with starting fluid, could be timing chain or compression issue. If it's got spark and compression should at least hit with starting fluid. Let us know what you find there,
Still not sure what you need?
Have a certified mobile mechanic diagnose what's wrong with your car, at your home or office.
If the seat belt will pull all the way out but simply not fasten to the latch, the latch has been compromised. Removal of the rear seat will be required and a new latch from the manufacturer installed. I would...
It sounds like there's a problem with the latch itself. There are linkage rods or cables that connect the lock lever and door handles to the latch. A bent or sticking mechanism inside the latch is probably to blame. The...
The transmission has cooler lines that run into the radiator. The radiator has a built-in cooler for the transmission. If the cooler leaks into the coolant, it will cause a milky brown looking fluid. You should have the cooling system...
The battery and charging system should be evaluated first. However, if your battery is more than 5 years old, I would simply replace the battery (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/battery-replacement) outright before doing further diagnostics (which are still needed). Batteries are actually critical components...
It would be best to have a new part installed rather than using second hand one. The old one my have had problems they tried to fix by adding grease and using the cable ties, but the part is now...
Hello - first task is to check for problem codes. Most auto parts stores will do this for you for free on a time-available basis. Your symptoms suggest a failed thermostat (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-thermostat) - not closing and allow the engine to...
The issue you are writing in about is common enough that a specific diagnostic, namely a Reduced Engine Power Warning Light Diagnostic (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/reduced-power-light-is-on-inspection) is performed by technicians dispatched by YourMechanic. If you request that diagnostic, the responding certified mechanic will...
Hello, thank you for writing in. There are two types of "speed sensors" on the vehicle. Regardless of which one you are referring to, the answer is yes. The transmission speed sensors are the same for both automatic and manual...
You may have a coolant leak. That can be determined if you request a coolant leak diagnostic (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/coolant-is-leaking-inspection). There was a recall for quite a few Ford vehicles, including your model, to rectify a fault with the electric power steering...
