Needing a tune-up on your 2008 Avenger is not going to cause the engine to knock so having one done is not likely going to solve the engine knock. The first thing you need to do here is to have the oil level and condition checked to be sure it's properly filled and the oil is clean. If it's low and overdue for an oil change then that would be the place to start here. If the knock remains after having the oil service done, then unfortunately this is most likely an internal engine concern such as a knocking piston rod and or even a possible collapsed lifter. When you take it in for the oil service be sure to have your mechanic have a listen to the knock and they can usually give you a good idea of the actual source.

It's not likely having it over full will cause the knocking your describing. The best thing to do here is to correct the oil level and let's see if that helps.
