My car isn’t wanting to switch into a higher gear. And it sometimes causes me to lose power?? Mechanic's Assistant: How old is the transmission? Have you checked the [brake](/topics-brake-dodge/) switch? It’s an 07 Dodge Caliber. And idk where the brake switch is? Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Caliber yourself? What have you tried so far? I haven’t tried anything. And yes Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Na

Hey there, Jake here.Sorry your having issues, but thanks for reaching out.

Hey. Are you the mechanic
Automotive Expert
That’s me :)

Okay. So I'm having trouble with my 2007 Dodge Caliber. It's not wanting to switch out of a low gear. Which sometimes causes me to lose power? Does that make any sense? Lol.I know nothing about vehicles. ‍♀️
Automotive Expert
your saying it’s basically not shifting into overdrive? So when cruising at high speeds the RPMS are higher than normal?

my [cruise control](/topics-cruise-control/) works for a short period of time then a lighting bolt flashes red on my dash and I start to lose power.
Automotive Expert
Can you still drive on the highway? Or is it a very low gear that won’t let you over a certain MPH?

Well when it acts like it's stuck I pull over turn it off then restart it.That most of the time does the trick
Automotive Expert
The way your describing it, doesn’t necessarily sound like a lower gear necessarily but may just be a throttle issue. One thing I see with throttle issues is the lightning bolt and loss of power and throttle issues would cause cruise to cut out also.

what do I need to do about fixing it?What parts and price range do I need to be looking at?
Automotive Expert
Which engine do you have?

A 4 cylinder
Automotive Expert
Parts and labor will run about $450If the throttle body is at fault here

Omg.

There is always the option of looming for a used part to save a lot of money since the majority of the cost here is the part. Thanks!

Window not working
Te problem most likely exists in the power window motor/regulator assembly if the fuse is good. The fuse should be checked first, and if the fuse is good, the door panel will need to be removed to check the condition...
Occasional high revving
Hello. Thanks for writing in about your 2013 Nissan Cube. I would suggest having idle air control valve tested and the operation of the pedal position sensor checked with a scan tool or multimeter. It sounds like the idle air...
Can the oil pan gasket replacement be done at home? 2006 Lincoln Ls V8. Does it use just a liquid gasket or does it use an actual gasket?
Hi there. The oil pan gasket is either a gasket of cork or rubber (silicone molded) or a spread of RTV Silicone. The oil pan gasket can be removed at home, you will just have to jack up the vehicle...
When the car stalls it takes a few tries before starting back up
Hello. The stalling problem and starting problem are generally two separate issues but they may be related if the fault your civic has is electrical, such a bad main relay. There are a wide variety of things which can cause...
I lost my key and need to get the steering lock off.
You're halfway there. The headless bolts you see are indeed a security feature. The heads are designed to twist off when the bolts are tightened. Obviously if they just unbolted, it would be far too easy for a car thief...
Car shuts off while driving. Got fuel pump changed. Throttle position sensor oil pressure switch wires for a tune up done also
Hi there. Usually when a car will stall all of the sudden without warning, it's caused by a restriction of fuel or an electrical glitch with the ignition system. If you've had the throttle position sensor changed, and fuel pump,...
My 2001 Acura MDX is stalling intermittently. It usually takes a jump start to get it going again.
It sounds like you may have a weak battery, a failing voltage regulator or failing alternator. As you may know, the alternator charges the battery while the engine runs by generating amperage and recharging the battery while the engine turns...
Traction control light
Your vehicle is equipped with wheel speed sensors (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/abs-speed-sensor-replacement) at each of the four wheels which monitor wheel speed while relaying this information simultaneously to the ABS and traction control system which are controlled by the car's ECU. When the...
Hesitation when coming to a stop
What you are describing sounds like a dirty or failing idle air control valve. The idle air control valve (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/idle-control-valve-replacement) monitors the air intake as it is mixed with fuel prior to being injected into the engine at low speeds...
