I have a 2009 Dodge [Ram 1500](/topics-ram-1500/). I just replaced ball joints and went to go start the truck and then no crank. Only one click at fuse box under the hood. [Battery](/topics-battery-dodge/) is new and charged. The security light is also flashing.
Mechanic's Assistant: Does the light flash, blink or stay solid? Have you tried to reset the security system?
The light flashes and I unlocked the truck using the key fob.
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Ram 1500 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Yes, can’t afford anyone else to do it. Also the gear selector is stuck in park. I’ve tried disconnecting the battery, checked all of the fuses.
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
That’s pretty much it.

No, it stays flashing. Also, my code reader can't link to the truck. I'm not sure if all of this is connected or not.

ok, well, since the immobilizer is set and you cant get it out of park and you have those other lights on, the only thing you can do at this point is to start checking fuses. also, what is the voltage reading at the battery?
Customer

Give me about an hour and I'll let you know. Also, fuses were good.

the main thing here is the immobilizer light. so you need to check these 2 fuses. if they are good, then make sure they have 12 volts at them(pic attached)
Customer
Alright, I'll check those once I get the battery hooked back up.

I got someone out here and he can't program a new key. He also said that most times when a win module goes out that the truck won't recognize the key but it is enough to turn it to the on position
Customer
Do you think it's the win module? That's the only thing I can think of
david craig
Automotive Expert
that's true, but Im not sure what you mean about turning it to the on position? so you arent able to turn the key?
Customer
No, I can turn the key just fine. It's like the win module is accepting the key but the security system won't let it turn on.
david craig

the win module is part of the security system
Customer

if you turn the key on-off-on-off-on, do any faults come?
Customer

I've tried 3 different code readers and they all 3 can't link to the truck

None that I can visibly notice.

ok, then you have a bad ECM if 3 code readers cant communicate with the computer. there are only 3 reason that a reader cant connect. the ECM is bad, the reader isnt compatible with the the ecm's protocol por the wiring between the OBD2 connector and the ECM is bad.
Customer
What would be the best route to go with replacing the ECM if it's the issue? Also, would it need to be programmed?
david craig

yes, the ECM needs to be programmed. here are the procedures
Still not sure what you need?
Have a certified mobile mechanic diagnose what's wrong with your car, at your home or office.
If you overheated the engine prior to replacing the head gasket you would need to have the head checked for cracks and get the surface refaced. If this has been done, then the problem may be that the cylinder block...
There is a short somewhere causing the lights to work intermittently. However, to provide more insight as to where the short might be, I would need to know exactly which lights are illuminating intermittently. I'm guessing that it is not...
This sounds like potentially a vacuum leak. I would check for any signs of vacuum leak first if you have access to a vacuum gauge set. If not, I would recommend having an expert from Your Mechanic come to your...

Hi there: If you checked the oil and determined that there was no oil in the car, it's quite possible that some internal engine components have seized up; which means there might be serious engine damage internally. Before you attempt...
Not much damage will result in this event. The only thing that will happen is the fuel may leak out the run off tube and cause an external leak as the little run off hose is rarely used. In that...
A blown head gasket may cause a number of different symptoms. A head gasket that fails between cylinders will generally cause a misfire and potentially compression leaks from one cylinder into another. Low compression will eventually result in a rough...
