Hello, my check engine light came on in my 2001 Chrysler town and country van 3.3 v6 the code reader sent me these codes p0302 cylinder 2 miss fire, po403 exhaust gas recirculation control circuit, po508 idle air control system circuit low. I changed all the spark plugs and wires and the coil pack, this made the car run good, but the idle speed was really low, so I took off the throttle body and idle air control valve and clean ed them really good. After I put it all back together now the van is idling really high 1500 to 2000 rpms. So by cleaning the throttle body and idle air control valve my van went from idling really low to really fast and I dont understand why. I researched the idle air control valve and one of the tips it said was there could be a vaccum leak that would cause the idle to run high. Would should I do? Replace the idle air control valve? Is there a way to tell if it needs to be replaced or maybe when i took it off the two o rings on it could be bad so would that cause a vaccum leak? Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.

No

ok, you need to do both. anytime something is removed and reinstalled the o rings or gaskets must be replaced. you created a vacuum leak by not doing so.

Ok do they [sell](/topics-sell/) those o rings separately or do I have to buy new parts to get the o rings?
David Craig

Automotive Expert
the part store sell the gasket separately and the dealer would have the o rings.

I just contacted atuozone and they have the orange throttle body gasket, but they dont sell the two o rings for i.a.c. valve. I'm on hold with the dealership how certain are you that I can buy the o rings without having to buy a new i.a.c valve?

I'm still on hold with the parts dept, but thankyou it really helps to know what I'm asking for and how to describe it, I was lost until I got in contact with you, so thankyou very much.I just got off the phone with the dealership parts dept and they dont sell the o rings to the i.a.c. anymore, autozone doesn't sell them either, so is there a way to match those o rings or should I just buy a new i.a.c valve?

you can buy an assortment of different o rings from the part store and try matching them up eith the o rings for the IAC

That's what I was thinking, is there a way to find out the exact size of the o rings, so I can buy that exact size or buy an assortment pack that contains that size? Or is this something I have to just match up by eye?

Hey you still there? So I had to buy a new i.a.c valve because the o rings where almost impossible to match. So the van is running 100% better but when I first start it for the day I have to hold down the accelerator a little bit and rev the rpms to warm it up so to speak for a min or two and once I take off it drives great and doesn't die anymore. The check engine light is still on and the codes are the same ,so I dont know what to do next. What else affects the idle of the car,? What does the e.g.r do? One of the codes is for that being farted up. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated, thanks

you can always pull the EGR valve off and clean it up really well with brake parts cleaner.
