Mechanic's Assistant: Is the power loss consistent, or does it fluctuate?
I’m not sure, I put my car in park and shut the [engine](/topics-engine-chevy/) off. When I turned it back on, everything worked again. I’m just not sure what would cause that to happen
Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car?
Chevrolet HHR 2009
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your HHR yourself? What have you tried so far?
I haven’t tried anything yet, it happened after dark and I figured it’d be safer to work in daylight

- You mentioned you shifted to park and shut the engine off.
- Are you sure the engine was in fact still running? I ask because all the symptoms point to the engine not running because it stalled.

My name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I think my engine was still running, it's never done that before and all of my lights/sensors were still working. It's an automatic if that makes a difference

I was backing out of a parking space when it happened. I don't know what would've caused it to stall if I hadn't turned the key into the off position yet

Hello, Hope
I believe the concern here is going to be an intermittent low-pressure issue within the transmission that has caused the converter clutch to engage prematurely. My suggestion is to service the transmission fluid than do some system cleanups on the engine to get it running its best. Have a certified mobile mechanic diagnose what's wrong with your car, at your home or office.
Generally, a failed head gasket will leave evidence in one of four areas. The oil needs to be checked for a milky residue -- as this would indicate coolant leaking into the oil. The coolant needs to be checked to...

Hello. P0101 (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/-p0101-obd-ii-trouble-code-mass-airflow-maf-circuit-operating-range-or-performance-problem-by-john-nelson) is the trouble code for a problem with the mass airflow sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/mass-airflow-sensor-replacement) and or circuit. This code is thrown when the computer detects an issue with the signal of the MAF sensor. The MAF sensor is...
Hello. If the issues appeared when using the AC and defroster, then they are likely related to that system. In most cases, the AC / Heater does not use vacuum lines as a part of it's operation, so a vacuum...
Hi there. Check the spark plugs (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/spark-plugs-replacement) and see if they have been replaced. The plugs in your engine are designed to last between 80,000 to 100,000 miles. Replace the spark plugs if they have not been changed. If the...
Hello, thank you for writing in. Without knowing the make and model of the vehicle it is difficult to determine the exact components that are involved with your keyless ignition. Typically this will occur if there is a weak signal...
A failed head gasket could account for both the overheating and the oil leak but that is pure speculation as the overheating and the oil leak could also be totally unrelated. If you request an engine overheating diagnostic (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/car-is-overheating-inspection) the...
Hi there. It is possible that the transmission is not your problem. If the vehicle is hard to accelerate, it could be cause by a fuel system, ignition system or drive train component failure. Due to the fact there are...
This may be a sign of a faulty MAP sensor as the vehicle responds adversely to a load put on the motor (i.e. putting it in gear, turning on AC or engaging the brakes). The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor...
