Hi, I have a 2005 Chevy impala. My car is not displaying the light around the PRDNL to indicate which gear it is in. Due to this I cannot start my car and the check engine light is also on. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

It is not clear if the check engine light and the other issues (the PRDNL light and the no start) are connected. The OBD-II trouble codes should be downloaded though as they may provide key clues to resolving this. You should be able to tell if the car is in park and if in park, the vehicle should start. Perhaps there is an issue with the neutral start switch on the transmission, the shift cable or other components. To get this resolved, if you want the required diagnostic steps performed by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request a no start diagnostic. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.
