[Exhaust](/topics-exhaust-chevy/) leak right before the [muffler](/topics-muffler-chevy/). P0420 code, but ran fine for a while. Started misfiring intermittently, but no code for a while until last night P0300. Rough idle. Mechanic's Assistant: Have you seen the misfire code before? Has the car been stalling? No, first time with the code, but it has been misfiring for about a week. No stalling. Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? 2006 chevy suburban 3/4 ton 6.0L Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far? I tried two bottles of Lucas fuel injector cleaner. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Hello, my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I will be happy to assist you with this running problem. The P0420 code indicates a problem with the catalytic convertor. I see where you had some engine work done, but if the convertor has over 100,000 miles on it, it is probably starting to go bad and that may be what is causing your general misfire code (P0300).

What would the exhaust leak fluid look like if the cat was bad?
Automotive Expert
It would be like black water coming out of the bleed hole in either the cat or the muffler. The exhaust would also start smelling like sulfur or rotten eggs, especially when during hard acceleration.

Hmm, not sure about the smell, smells normal to me.

This is the leak, and the fluid dripping is clear.
Automotive Expert
That's your exhaust leak for sure. That clamps needs to be either tightened or replaced. Spray some penetrating oil on the clamp bolt and let it set for about an hour before you try to tighten it, or that bolt may break. There's a lot of rust there.

Yea, I yanked on that bolt for a good half hour and it didn't budge. I don't have any penetrating oil on me (I'm traveling), but wd40 didn't seem to help.
Automotive Expert
WD40 is not a penetrate. You need something like PB'laster or Knock'er Loose. You can buy those at any auto parts store, or even any WalMart.

Ahh ok gotcha. Oriellys is open down the street. There's an o ring in there too, correct?
Automotive Expert
No, there is not.

Ok cool, so it's just that clamp.

Will this work as a replacement?
Automotive Expert
As long as it fits the pipe and can be tightened it should.

Ok great. Thanks so much for your help, James! Road trip fun!

I smell something burning and my oil pressure light is on. What's wrong?
This sounds like you are having three different problems: The engine had burned oil and you changed it and now the oil light is on (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/is-it-safe-to-drive-with-the-oil-light-on). The transmission slips (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/3-essential-things-to-know-about-your-car-s-gear-shifter) and then catches. The last thing you mention the cooling...
A/C blows only hot air
Hello. This can be a module, but it can also be an issue within the system (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/4-essential-things-you-should-know-about-the-heating-and-air-conditioning-system-in-your-car). I typically check the system pressures first. If the pressures are fine and are functioning right then the actuators under the dash need...
Car noise, dashboard warnings on
One guess is that the problem could be a faulty wheel bearing(s). Bad wheel bearings (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/wheel-bearings-replacement) often result in a rotational growling noise. The wheel bearing is integral to the hub assembly on your vehicle, which also houses the reluctor...
