Hi there I will do all I can to help. The catalytic converter reduces [exhaust](/topics-exhaust-chevy/) emissions and tells the computer what adjustments to make for the vehicle to run at best performance and fuel economy. A bad catalytic converter is just caused by wear out due to maybe the vehicle running rich or just normal wear out.
Now, Usually when the reduced engine power sign shows up on the dash is because of an issue with the throttle body, the best way to start diagnosing this issue is to run a diagnostic scan for any pending trouble codes and go from there.

Ok, as I said usually that is the problem when that happens but to know for sure you need to run a diagnostic scan with an OBD scanner to check for any codes so we can start the troubleshooting.
