Car is overheating and blowing cold air Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the coolant? Have you checked for a leak in the cooling system? No leaks that I can find and coolant level is full/ ormal level Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? 2004 Chevy impala Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Impala yourself? What have you tried so far? Yes. I watched to make sure the cooling fan motor kicks on at the right time, which it does. Leads me to believe it's a clogged hose

Hi Justin. Nice to see you today! I'm sorry to hear you are having this problem. I know this can be frustrating. Justin does your vehicle have the 3.4L or the 3.8L [engine](/topics-engine-chevy/)?

3.4 I believe
Automotive Expert
Perfect. Thank-you, Justin. Please give me one moment to type out some information for you. Sit tight one minute... I'll be right back! Thanks for holding, Justin. If you are certain there are no leaks and that the [radiator](/topics-radiator-chevy/) cooling fan is working correctly, then this sounds like it may be the case of a failed Thermostat. So, this would be the next course of action to take. The thermostat is located on the top, driver's side of the engine. To gain access, the air cleaner intake duct will first need to be removed. While the thermostat is out, the system should be flushed to ensure there are no clogs in the [heater core](/topics-heater-core-chevy/) or radiator.

Does the thermostat control the cooling fan?
Automotive Expert
No. The Engine Coolant Temp (ECT) Sensor does. The ECT reports to the on-board computer, which in turn activates the fan.

Ok. Is the thermostat located under the throttle body control?
Automotive Expert
As I mentioned above, Justin, it's located on the driver's side of the engine. For an image location view, click here: https://bit.ly/3pIE3FD

Ok. Thanks for the image

It is under the throttle body. Not "on top".

My apologies. That was the only image shown in the manual. Glad you found it!
