Bought 2009 Chevy traverse from someone and after a couple days it started cutting in and out while driving it. Mechanic's Assistant: Will the headlights turn on? Is the battery fully charged? It shows battery life about half way or a little more when driving. When you start it without putting it in drive the rpm is close to 1 and the check [engine](/topics-engine-chevy/) light code is ‘misfire in cylinder 1? Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Traverse yourself? What have you tried so far? Yes and nothing because everything I have read about it online says something different so I don’t know for sure where to start or what it is. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? The guy we bought it from said he just put a new timing set in it also.

Hello, my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I'm sorry to hear about problem. Ignore phone call prompt and there may be short delay between replies.

Hello
Automotive Expert
If the only code you are getting is a cylinder 1 misfire that most likely means [spark plug](/topics-spark-plug-chevy/) or coil. Swap coil with another cylinder to see if misfire follows coil, if so replace. If not then replace spark plugs. Let me know how it goes or if you have questions, thanks. - Cylinder 1 is cylinder on rear passenger side of engine.

Okay. I have ordered coil set and it arrives tomorrow.Ok

Let me know how it goes, you really only need 1 coil not the whole set. Keep me updated, thanks.

That fixed it for now

Good to hear, thanks for update.

Replace a oil pump

Mystery shaking
Hi, thanks for writing in. Given the sporadic nature of the symptoms, and a known head gasket issue, it is likely the engine is misfiring (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-can-problems-with-the-ignition-system-cause-misfiring_2) due to the head gasket issues is causing rough running. If the symptoms are...
