I have a 2017 chevy Trax. I will be at a stop signs and a light comes on saying [engine](/topics-engine-chevy/) speeds are reduced. I then have to pull over turn my car off wait a few minutes and then I can turn my car back on and sometimes it'll go and other times it keeps that light stays on eventually it'll end up going I have the code tester read on it and they're saying that something with my air flow and for me to clean the sensors and air flow. My car also whenever it was low on gas it would do that or when I go and put gas in and fill it up when I first turn on the car it will not want to start or if it does start if I don't have my foot on the gas pedal giving it some power then it will die what is causing this since my boyfriend cleaned everything I haven't had very much problems with it going on and saying engine speeds are being reduced but I still had problems when I filled it up today once I'm on the road for a couple minutes then my vehicle will run fine Mechanic's Assistant: Just to clarify, what are the exact lights you're talking about? The check engine light came on a couple months ago when this first started. A warning light will come on saying engine speeds are being reduced when I lose power and that's when I have to pull over turn it off for a little bit and then normally it will turn back on anywhere from 2 to 3 minutes after I let it sit for a little bit Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Trax yourself? What have you tried so far? Yes my boyfriend's been looking at it when I went and got the check engine light test done at AutoZone 12 different codes popped up. I have a picture of it if I can upload it to this maybe and you can see that but they were telling me it had to do with the airflow system and what I was told to do is for us to clean the sensors , and to clean out the I forgot it's called mass airflow I'd have to look it up on the paper I'm sorry I'll do that here in a second so he cleaned that out and he cleaned the sensors and then we changed the air filter and it was running good until I got gas. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? I don't think so sorry I'm having a hard time explaining it

Hello I'm Rick from just answer, sorry to hear about your trax issues, if you see a phone call request you may choose to ignore that as this is generated through just answer not me personally..... These are known for having a wastegate issues on turbocharger sometimes the wastegate rod clips come loose and will cause this issue....have you checked oil level in engine?

are the oil levels were good
Automotive Expert
Okay I would check the wastegate control lever on the turbo as these are a pretty common issueI would also check any air cooler lines for leaks

Okay I'll have that checked I do have a list of the codes that came out when we did the check the engine light test would looking at that help I've asked a few different people and of course I'm getting different answers from everybody but none of them have been mechanics
Automotive Expert
Yeah reduced power will cause a bunch of other codes to tell the computer wrong signals and you will get a ton of codes

I will have him do that too I'm being told that it could possibly be two different sensors and both sensors are kind of pricey so I don't want to buy those and replace those if I don't need toOh okay I'm sorry I don't know nothing about vehicles at all so and hopefully I'm explaining this all kind of decent but probably not LOL I'm not very good at this I will send you a picture of that printout

It's ok I understand

Yeah I would double check your intake duct and make sure everything is tight any air cooler lines and check that wastegate control lever, any loose air lines will set the lean codes as well

Okay thank you so much I will have him look at that tomorrow and if he has any other questions can we contact you tomorrow

Vehicle sputters and dies
This can be caused by a number of things. If it is hard to start and acts like this if it is usually fuel related. I usually start by scanning the computer for codes. If there are codes present, then...
I'm smelling gas after I drive everytime
I did not seem to find any technical bulletins for this issue. I would first recommend not driving the vehicle until you have the system checked to see what kind of fuel leak or vapor leak you are having. If...
None of my power window will go up or down. And I just replace the power window relay
Check the 20 amp power window circuit breaker in the engine compartment fuse box. If the circuit breaker is sending power to the relay then the main power window switch (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-power-window-switch) will need to be checked to see if it...
Cost of replacing a engine on a 2009 GTI volkswagen?
That is not an unreasonable price for a L4-2.0 L turbo engine. It would be much more elsewhere. Be sure the turbo charger is thoroughly inspected. If the engine failed due to an oil/lubrication issue, it would not be surprising...
Engine vibrates when aircon is on and vibration increases specifically in traffic
Hey there. The "vibration that goes on and off" is likely the compressor cycling on and off - this is by design. However, the fact that this seems to have a pounding noise with it, is most not common for...
I have replaced a failed alternator once a month for the last four months, any suggestions?
Your vehicle has a recall for the alternator cable shorting on the power steering line after the insulation gets rubbed through. The recall is for inspecting and replacing the alternator and alternator wiring. The recommendation I have is to contact...
Wrench light on dash after tune up and throttle body cleaning.
Hello there, many faults will cause the wrench light to be seen in your 2010 Ford F-150. To determine what exactly has failed, it will be necessary to remove the inner door panel and look to see what part(s) have actually failed. The most common failures, when an outer door handle quits working (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/door-will-not-open-inspection), is a broken...
