Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked to make sure the thermostat is working? What about the coolant level?
Coolant level is perfect. How do I check the thermostat?
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Impala yourself? What have you tried so far?
I haven t tried anything coz idk where to start. Im trying to figure out if its sonething IM capable of fixing myself. Keep in mind IM 60yr female but im also capable of doing most things if they are do-able by a lay person
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
Yes!! I had a friend replace my front [brakes](/topics-brakes/) and ever since then the front end shudders violently when braking!!

if the cooling system has been worked on recently ..it is possible that you may now have air trapped in the system
lets try bleeding it..do it this way
1-remove the [radiator](/topics-radiator-chevy/)/reservoir cap when the [engine](/topics-engine-chevy/) is cold
2-start the engine and let idle
3-turn the heater on max
4-keep coolant on hand and add it as needed
5-some coolant may gush out with the air
6-keep doing this until the engine is at operating temperature and the heater is hot
7-after the coolant settles down and the engine is warm,,install the cap
This may take as long as 20-30 minutes
if it is still doing the same thing, then i would think the thermostat is stuck open and will need to be replaced
you cant see it so there rally is no way to check it without taking it out

Still not sure what you need?
Have a certified mobile mechanic diagnose what's wrong with your car, at your home or office.
Hi there. If all of these issues happened at the same time I would start by checking the connection at the fuse box under the hood. The main battery terminals connection to the fuse box becomes loose and cause this....
You did not say why the ECU was diagnosed, but the ECU would need to be programed to your specific vehicle by a dealership. If the ECU did not fix whatever issue prompted the replacement, then the car will not...
No, I work on that all the time. It's a very easy job. What you'd want to buy is a valve cover gasket kit that includes rummets for the spark plugs and rounded bolts. Even if you are not a...
Hello there. A few common faults will cause your cruise control to cut out with your 2009 Ford Explorer. The most common faults would be the cruise control module, throttle cable, throttle body (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/throttle-body-replacement), or a fuel pump (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/fuel-pump-replacement). I...
Hello - there are several problems which could cause the behavior you mention. A failed throttle position sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/throttle-position-sensor-replacement) can cause the high idle, and poor shift/no shift behavior you describe since the engine & transmission communicate with each other...
Hi there. Leak stopper should only be used in emergency situations as it usually causes more problems than it "fixes". It sounds like the leak stopper may have settled in your heater core and is preventing the proper amount of...
Check the drive belt to the vehicle and see if its cracked or glazed. A cracked or glazed drive belt will squeal when under a load. Also, check the pulleys and see if the bearings are going out. A drive...
Hello, thank you for writing in. The vehicle's warning light needs to be scanned so we can figure out what component may be causing the issue. Use the codes available to direct you to a probable component. If your codes...
Hi There, Generally, the check engine light (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/check-engine-light-is-on-inspection) comes on when something fairly serious is going on with the vehicle. If the problem were related to an electrical voltage problem, the charging system light will usually come on. The check...
