I have a 2000 Chevy 1500 with a 4.3L - It has been running rough and the code was P1345. Yesterday it started but was really rough and kept dying. I replaced the cam and crank sensors, distributor and cap along with [spark plugs](/topics-spark-plug-chevy/) and wires and now it won’t start. It turns over but won’t run. I do have fire to the distributor
Mechanic's Assistant: Does the vehicle stall at low speeds? Does it sputter?
Won’t start now
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Spark yourself? What have you tried so far?
Pulled
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
Pulled the distributor and rotated the crank to see if it was out of time. It will only slide into place at 2 different positions.

Hello there, I am Cam.
I am licensed automotive technician with more than 18 years experience.
As an expert on the site, I only have access to your question. Any billing questions or concerns would require a customer service specialist.
A couple things before we get going;
- I am around most days but not every minute of every day. If you reply while I am offline, I will respond when I am next online.
-I am a Firefighter/Paramedic which might require me to drop and run at any time without warning. If this happens, I will reply as soon as I am able to.
-The website will automatically offer a phone call. Some times they are beneficial, sometimes not.
I am sorry to hear you are having troubles with your vehicle. While I am looking at your question, can you tell me who I have the pleasure of assisting today?
If you remove the distributor cap and watch the rotor, does it turn smoothly?
Also if you push down and try to turn it, does it move more than 1/32"?

Rotates smoothly and no extra play in it. Also thank you for your service. I was a police officer for 16 years as well

Thank you for your service. I cannot imagine the stuff you saw in your career.
Does it fire if you put a bit of fuel in the throttle?
Customer

It fires off but that’s it

Ok so it runs for a moment on that. So its not spark.
When did you last change the fuel filter?
Customer

Not that long ago. It was running up until yesterday. Yesterday it started up but ran really rough, spitting and spuddering and when I finally got it to idle I’d put into gear and it would die. I went and got parts and was able to move the truck to my driveway and replaced what I told you earlier

Ok, So we need to check the fuel pressure. IT is possible that has failed. The fact it runs on fuel in the throttle body leads me away form the ignition system.
Can you hear the fuel pump in the tank running for 2 seconds when you turn the key on?

Customer

Ok, so you have power, you have spark since it runs on fuel in the throttle body. So we need to check the fuel pressure. Spec is 60-66 psi.

I don’t have anyway to check that

Ok, well I don’t have a way to get one right now. Any other suggestions I can check? I just swapped back to my old cam and crank sensors and now my battery is dead. Lol - go figure!!
