Well it's funny, because I just got a new radiator and thermostat in late December. And my car's been doing fine. Now all of a sudden, the temp. gauge goes up almost to hot! I put my heater on, and it went down and I got it home. What could it be?
Mechanic's Assistant: Has the vehicle overheated in the past? And what about servicing? Is it up-to-date on oil changes?
It hasn't overheated in the past, as far as I know. I've only had it for less than 2 years, and it's a 2014, so it' not old! It did have the radiator replaced, because it was leaking coolant. Also, I had an oil change at the same time as I got the radiator and thermosat fixed.
Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model of your '14 car?
It's a Hyundai Accent.
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Accent yourself? What have you tried so far?
I don't know how to fix it, really. I took it to my mechanic. I did put the heater on, and the temp gauge went down to normal and stayed there until I got home!
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
Not anything that I haven't told you.

The remaining possible causes can be some sludge buildup in the cooling system which is blocking the flow through the thermostat and radiator partially. The water pump impellers are corroded and not moving enough coolant. The head gasket is leaking allowing air to be packed into the cooling system. The cooling fan not working. These are the things that need to be checked through testing.
Thank you for seeking us for help, I hope I provided what was needed. Press reply if you need to follow up. If you liked my answer please let me know so I can mark your question complete. Moose

I liked your response, I'm hoping it isn't anything really expensive to fix. I'm going to be taking it to my local mechanic tomorrow. But I just wondered what it could possibly be. Like I said, it was fine after being fixed late, this past December. I was puzzled to what it could be now? Can a thermostat go out that soon, or a radiator?

A thermostat nor radiator failure over a couple of months is unlikely.

Hi there, thanks for writing in about your 1997 Mercedes-Benz S420. The fuel light circuit receives information from the fuel level sending unit (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/fuel-gauge-sender-replacement) to show the approximate fuel level and give a warning as the level becomes low. There...
Check the simplest things first. There is the possibility that the microchip in your key is defective. So called chip keys do fail and one failure mode is you car won't start. Perhaps you have a known good duplicate key...
Hello. I would have the system scanned for any codes (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-read-and-understand-check-engine-light-codes-by-jason-unrau) and have them diagnosed to see if they lead to possible cause of the problem. Have the fuel system also checked for any problems when the problem happens to...
There is likely a wheel speed sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/wheel-speed-sensor-replacement) issue causing the DSC light to be on. It also sounds like your transmission is in "limp' mode - being stuck in 3rd gear. The problem codes, and professional interpretation, will provide...
Since the noise appears to occur while turning, I would have your mechanic check for a loose or failing accessory drive belt (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/serpentine-drive-belt-replacement) (often called a 'serpentine" belt). Turning puts more load on this belt, and it may be slipping....
Hi there: Don't beat yourself up too hard; we've all been there and done the same thing at least once in our lives. If you visit your local auto parts store, they might have screw inserts called License plate fasteners...
Hi there - I would check for problem codes, whether the Check Engine light is illuminated or not. It would seem that something else is not quite right with your engine (https://www.yourmechanic.com/question/my-car-is-not-starting-what-might-be-the-problem-by-aditya-d). If your engine is cranking (i.e. actually spinning...
This part is likely located on the engine near the intake manifold. It should have a plastic vacuum line or two attached to it. Some vehicles put this part near the gas tank as well.
