The warning light means that the engine immobilizer system has detected a fault and/or is not recognizing the key. You can attempt to reset the whole system by removing the key from the car. Then, disconnect the negative battery cable for about ten minutes. Place key in car and turn to the on position, then replace battery cable. If that doesn’t work, other possibilities are that the ignition module might be intermittently (occasionally) failing to detect the key. The remedy is to replace the module but other causes should be ruled out first. There is also a ground wire from the battery to the body that has been reported to not be well connected. A poor ground can cause the fault you are describing. If the problem persists, the recommended service is a warning light diagnostic - immobilizer system. If you request that service, the responding certified mechanic will come right to your location and resolve this.
