What is the Gas Cap all about?

The purpose of a Gas Cap is twofold: one, it helps prevent dust and other particles from getting into the gas tank, and two, it helps prevent fuel emissions from entering the atmosphere. If your gas cap is faulty, the Check Engine light may come on. Additionally, your vehicle may fail a smog test if the gas cap is gone or not functioning properly.

How it's done:

  • Inspect the gas cap.
  • Pressure-test the gas cap.
  • Install new gas cap if faulty.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Gas Cap?

  • Check Engine light is on.
  • Car does not pass the emission test.
  • Gas Cap is missing.

Subaru Forester H4-2.5L - Brake Pads Replacement (Front) - Marietta, Georgia
Ernest is honest and goes above and beyond. In addition to having brakes replaced, I ordered the valve cover gasket replaced. Other mechanics had told me there was a leak. Ernest said it was dry, may have had a previous leak, but not a current one. Instead of taking the job already ordered, he simply said he doesn't repair what isn't broken. We asked him to help on additional tasks which he was more than happy to work on and check for me. I will definitely use him again and highly recommend him!
