What is the Horn Relay all about?

The horn relay attaches a low power circuit to an electromagnet, which operates a mechanical switch. That switch either opens or closes a circuit that carries a higher power, which causes the horn to sound. There is a low power circuit running to your car’s steering wheel, and when it is activated, the horn sounds. When you release the horn button, the low power circuit is opened and the power level of the relay drops, silencing the horn.

Keep in mind:

  • You are required by law to have a working horn in your car.
  • Your car horn is a safety mechanism that allows you to warn other drivers of potential danger.

How it's done:

  • The vehicle battery is disconnected
  • The horn relay position is identified
  • The new horn relay and wiring are installed
  • The battery is reconnected
  • The repair is verified and the vehicle horn is tested for proper operation

Our recommendation:

If your horn isn’t working properly, you have no way of alerting another driver that he or she is about to collide with your vehicle, and you have no way of telling other drivers of any dangers further down the road. Our expert mechanics can diagnose any problems with your car horn, and if necessary, can replace the horn relay for you.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Horn Relay?

  • You press the horn button and nothing happens
  • You press the horn button but all you hear is a click
  • Horn only works sometimes

How important is this service?

Your horn is your first line of defense when it comes to problems in traffic. With an inoperable horn relay, your horn won’t work at all. If your horn isn’t working properly, get one of our expert mechanics to immediately correct the problem.

Kia Sorento L4-2.4L - Ball Joint Front Replacement (Lower Right) - Kenilworth, New Jersey
My sons car needed a lower ball joint replaced and going to the stealership for something simple like this was not a option. I had to go out of town but wanted to get this repaired before damage was done to the control arm. I left my wife to deal with the appointment. After speaking with my wife she was very impressed with Mr. Paniti. He inspected the control arm and made sure it was in good condition for the ball joint and did not try to make unnecessary repairs or recommendations. This is something that is rare these days in the auto service industry. Mr. Paniti worked efficiently and with with ease of a seasoned professional mechanic. I can say with 100% certainty we will be using Mr. Paniti for future services. If your looking for a a honest and professional mechanic Mr. Paniti is your man!
