What is the AC High Pressure Hose all about?

Your car’s air conditioning system works similarly to your home’s central air conditioning system. It uses a refrigerant to absorb heat and expel cold air – the refrigerant is both a gas and a liquid depending on the amount of pressure. The AC system has two “sides” – the low pressure side, where the refrigerant is a gas, and the high pressure side, where the refrigerant is turned into a liquid. An AC high pressure hose has a much smaller diameter than a low pressure hose (you’ll notice the size difference immediately if you open the hood and look at the air conditioning system). If the AC high pressure hose is leaking or blocked, the air conditioning will not cool your car.

Keep in mind:

  • Normal wear and tear, as well as exposure to heat in the engine compartment, can lead to deterioration in AC hoses.
  • Handling air conditioning refrigerant requires a specialized license in most jurisdictions.

How it's done:

  • The AC refrigerant is removed from the AC system
  • The defective high pressure AC hose is removed from vehicle
  • The new AC high pressure hose is installed into the vehicle
  • The AC system is vacuumed to remove air and charged with refrigerant
  • The vehicle is road tested for proper AC operation

Our recommendation:

Your air conditioning system is a sealed system and does not require maintenance unless there is a problem. The most common type of maintenance is an evacuation and recharge of the refrigerant in which old refrigerant and oil is extracted, and then replaced with new. However, age, heat and other forces can combine to damage your hoses, including the AC high pressure hose. If this happens, the hoses will need to be replaced. Damage can include cracks, refrigerant leaks, damaged connectors and more. If you suspect an air conditioning leak from the high pressure hose, have one of our expert mechanics diagnose the system and replace the hose if required.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the AC High Pressure Hose?

  • AC doesn’t cool at all.
  • AC only blows cool, but not cold, air.

How important is this service?

It’s tough to stay comfortable in a car during high summertime temperatures if you don’t have a working air conditioner. If you’re experiencing problems with your air conditioning system, have the system diagnosed to determine what needs to be replaced or serviced.

The whole mess came out brilliantly. Peter was very nice and very diligent and made sure I had air conditioning once again. He made sure to check all the attachments, pipes, hoses and everything. Thank you Peter for all you did to get the air conditioning back up and running.

Couldn't have been better, unless of course he had of showed up with a six pak or something. OH! Robert was punctual, professional, personable, efficient, respectful, tidy and communicative. I knew everything he was doing and why because he communicated with me thw whole way. Why in the hell would anyone drive their car, or have it towed, to the nearest "rip off" shops, then get a ride home and pay $136.00 only to get sub par service when one can have Robert show up at your door? Hat's off to not only Robert for exceeding my expectations but also to the genius who started this business. Best part, other than the affordable rates and awesome Mechanic is......my baby is running great with that damn error code gone. Been driving all morning. Thank you so very much. P.s Appreciated the emails and the text's which kept me informed the entire way. 10 stars if you had it.

Chevrolet Blazer V6-4.3L - Fuel Pump - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Was on time, call me to let me know he was on his way and time aloted to be there, arrived ,hand shake greeting, explain to me what he was going to do to the vehicle and checked to make sure that the issue I was having ,was the problem and nothing else. Went right too work on my fuel pump, no questions asked, had all the tools ready to do the job, covered the ground for any spills, love those orange rubber gloves he was wearing to keep his hands clean, and all his tools were even clean, and observe his work habits, he even explain what he was going too do and when the gas tank was down ,and out, he show me the old part and the new OEM for the car, and just watching him work gave me a chill up my spine to see that he really cares about what he does and I was proud of somebody that took pride in there work. I offer him something to drink, like coffee or h2o, or soda, but he says he come prepared and doesn't want to waste any time and finish and make me happy, which iwas very highly satisfield with all he did and the price was right inn range .He was a not stop machine and never complain.but most off all , love watching and love how he explain all he was doing.I love watching people do there jobs, and said ,"I hope you don't mind me watching you" and he said , no problem. Well, I said my piece of mind and will use him and pass his name on to my friends and he has a future working on my cars (3) .. Last , but not lease, I will never use any garage maint. and in the future, will have Your Mechanic do all my service....
