Nearly all gasoline-powered vehicles have a sensor on the throttle body that determines how warm the throttle body is. Its purpose is to adjust fuel flow so the engine runs at its best performance in all temperatures. The throttle body temperature sensor is mounted directly into the throttle body, and acts as a thermistor that delivers a reading to the engine control module. The engine control module performs fuel delivery adjustments based on the readings provided by the throttle body temperature sensor. If the temperature sensor isn’t reading correctly, the engine may not receive the correct amount of fuel to run smoothly at the current temperature.
The throttle body temperature sensor does not require maintenance and will only need to be inspected or addressed in the case of failure. If you suspect a problem with the throttle body temperature sensor, have one of our expert mechanics diagnose the sensor.
The throttle body temperature sensor plays an important role in your engine’s performance as it contributes to an accurate air/fuel mixture. If the throttle body temperature sensor fails, have it replaced promptly to regain your engine’s best performance.
