What is the Lateral Link all about?

While your front suspension is the most important for handling and steering, the rear also plays a significant role. There are fewer suspension components in the rear of your car, but one of the most critical is the lateral link. It connects the hub to the midpoint of the body, and keeps the wheel/hub assembly upright and centered while driving.

Lateral links are hollow metal tubes with a connection point on either end. Over time, the tube is exposed to significant amounts of stress and heat, but overall failure is uncommon.

Keep in mind:

  • A failed lateral link can make your car ride experience feel wobbly or insecure.
  • For the rear lateral link, there may be no noticeable symptoms, as the rear sway bar is thick enough to account for most of the rear lateral link’s operation.
  • The most common means for lateral links to fail is through accident damage.

How it's done:

  • The vehicle is lifted onto jack stands and the front tires are removed.
  • The defective front lateral links are removed.
  • The new front lateral links are installed and secured to the link brackets.
  • The tires are reinstalled and the vehicle removed from the jack stands. Tires are tightened to specifications.
  • The repair is verified and the vehicle road tested to ensure proper operation.

Our recommendation:

Your lateral links are critical to overall vehicle performance. A damaged or broken lateral link can cause undue tire wear, reduce ride quality, and compromise your ability to drive. Immediately have your vehicle diagnosed and repaired by one of our expert mechanics if you suspect any type of suspension problem.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Lateral Link?

  • “Loose” feeling while driving down the road
  • Clunking sound in the rear while driving
  • Abnormal tire wear on the rear tires
  • Torque steer, which can make it seem as though the issue is in the front suspension

How important is this service?

A damaged lateral link can cause serious damage to tires, and even put you at risk while driving on the road. It can throw off your steering and handling to a significant degree. Our recommendation is to have the problem immediately diagnosed and repaired by on of our expert mechanics.

Lexus IS300 L6-3.0L - Oil Change - San Jose, California
Rick was great. He called me to let me know he was slightly behind, and it didn't bother me at all. It was a late Saturday morning and I was just grateful the guy was even working. I ordered a synthetic oil change that came with a tire rotation. I think Rick was only going to do the oil change, so be sure to tell your mechanic you ordered both. He did everything he needed to do and more, with high attention to detail despite being late for his next appointment. He saw that my battery was corroded so he cleaned it off and sprayed it with sealant with me even asking him to! One thing - he left my keys in the ignition the whole time he worked (about 1.5 hours) with music on and everything. My car battery almost died. Lucky it didn't, or my review might not be so great! My car sputtered for a bit when I started my car later that day - it almost wouldn't start. All in all, due to the convenience and high level of quality, I'd definitely use this service again! Lastly, keep in mind that these mechanics are very on-the-go and probably don't get a chance to eat or drink. Offer them water and/or snacks! A happy mechanic = a happy car.

Lexus IS300 V6-3.5L - Car is not starting - Mount Vernon, New York
Luis is very pleasant, polite and knowledgeable. He pinpointed the reason for my car not starting in less than a minute (dead battery) and got to resolving the matter promptly. He further diagnosed my car to make sure that all potential reasons for it not starting was reviewed. He made sure that the battery had sufficent time to charge, suggested that we go to and auto parts store near my house to ensure that the battery is not past it prime. He communicated with the store associate to get my battery tested, made sure everything was ship shape before he ended the appointment. He did not rush through the appointment, but actually to his time to thoroughly check things out. I'll definitely be request him again in the future if if have an issue with my car and need a mechanic.

Pradeep is very knowledgeable and good at what he does. He was able to diagnose the problem quickly and even came back to do the repair earlier than what was scheduled the next day. The fuel pump needed replacing and the job was done within 30min and car is running now. Also very friendly, honest about and clear about the repairs needed. Best mechanic I’ve worked with.
