What is the Air Pump all about?

Decades ago, exhaust systems were pretty simple. The spent gases vented from the engine through the exhaust manifold, into the exhaust pipe, and then out through a muffler.   • Your air pump is an important part of your emissions system and should not be removed (removing smog pumps is popular with “modders” looking to lighten their vehicle).
  • You need an operational smog pump to pass your emissions test.
