Generally, two components make up the trunk latch: the U shaped anchor, which sits in the frame of the vehicle, and the latching mechanism in the lid to the trunk. Older cars generally use a cylinder system that can be opened with a key. This system operates using a cylinder and striker, and the key that is used generally matches the door locks. The latch that holds the trunk locked is located in the striker.
