What is the Door Lock Actuator all about?

A door lock actuator is the component in electronic door locks that is responsible for locking and unlocking the vehicle’s doors. When a button is pressed to lock or unlock a door, the door lock switch triggers the actuator. A small motor in the actuator then triggers a series of gears. The final gear is connected to a rack and pinion set of gears, which converts the rotational motion of the motor into the vertical motion necessary to lock or unlock the door.

Keep in mind:

Some modern vehicles have a complete door lock assembly which can’t be separated into individual components. These vehicles will need the entire assembly replaced, rather than just the actuator.

Our recommendation:

The door lock system shouldn’t be checked unless you notice that something is wrong. As soon as you notice your vehicle behave oddly when you lock or unlock the doors, schedule an inspection.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Door Lock Actuator?

  • Doors won’t lock.
  • Doors won’t unlock.
  • Doors will only lock or unlock sporadically.
  • Doors make an unusual noise while locking or unlocking.
  • Car alarm goes off randomly.

How important is this service?

A door lock actuator is responsible for locking and unlocking your doors. When the door lock switch is triggered, the actuator’s motor powers a set of gears that lock or unlock your door. When the actuator stops working, there is no communication between the door lock switch and the door locks, and you’ll be unable to lock or unlock the door.

Chrysler 300M V6-3.5L - Tie Rod End Replacement (Front Left Inner, Front Right Inner, Front Left Outer, Front Right Outer) - Washington, District of Columbia
Great experience with Charles. He was polite, professional and communicated well throughout the whole process. It's unfortunate that it was cold and rainy out while he was working, but it never effected his attitude or work performance.

Matt text and ask to come early as his previous appt finished early whiich was perfect for me. He was very kind, compassionate and caring and thorough. Matt is VERY knowledgable but very detailed which I like when explaining about his diagnosis and his delivery of it under my circumstance of what i'm dealing with in my life right now was handled with the utmost care & concern. He was honest and I found him to be Very trust worthy and a gentleman! My car can not be fixed unless I get a new transmission which I can not do so I neededf to know this to make decisions. He is truly and assest and cares about educating people about cars so they make wise decisons. Thanks a million and when God allows me money to purchase another car he will be my mechanic and yours...lol...I thank God for this service and bringing me the person he needed me to have!
