Can you tell us more about what you do at YourMechanic?
I am the Content Marketing and SEO Outreach Specialist at YourMechanic. On the content side, I manage the majority of YourMechanic’s advice section, by writing new articles, editing articles written by freelancers, and update old articles and service pages. With each piece, I check for search engine optimization (SEO) performance. I also do some SEO outreach -- contacting other sites and seeking links to relevant topics covered on our website.
Why did you join YourMechanic?
Before joining the YourMechanic team this past fall, I was working part-time in an after-school program for middle schoolers while attempting to freelance write on the side. Before that, I worked as a copywriter for an e-commerce site. I found the YourMechanic opening while perusing Indeed for more freelance contracts, and was interested in the combination of content marketing and SEO outreach all in one role. Writing on new topics always takes research, but optimizing a piece for search presence adds an exciting challenge. I joined YourMechanic for the challenge, experience, and opportunity it gave me to improve my writing with a fantastic group of people working to provide excellent service.
What was your first car and what do you love or hate about it?
My first car was a 1997 Toyota 4Runner. I loved its durability and reliability during the years I drove it -- I can’t say the same for my brother who drove it after me.
What are you passionate about?
I am an avid trail runner, and love looking up new places to run, race, and explore. I ran my first trail race in Death Valley December of 2016 and was hooked after running through the stunning Titus Canyon. Since then, I’ve done ten others, increasing the distance from half-marathon to marathon to 50k (31 miles) and multiple distances in between. I’m returning to Death Valley this February for a road race in the hopes of qualifying for the 2020 Boston Marathon, to do it, even though it’s a break from the trail.
Do you have a favorite quote? If so, what is it?
“If you’re not happy with this figment of your fancy, pick another one. There are plenty of fancies to pick from.” -- Yann Martel, Life of Pi
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grow up?
I wanted to be a lot of things: a writer, a teacher, an astronaut, a modern-day Indiana Jones. It depended on whatever book, tv show, or movie I was most interested in at the time.
How do you like your eggs and why?
Since I can’t make them myself any other way: I like my eggs scrambled, with a little salsa added for flavoring.
