If you are in the market for a used Land Rover vehicle, you may want to check out cars under their certified pre-owned program. Many manufacturers have a certified pre-owned (CPO) program, and each one is set up differently. Read on to learn about the specifics of the Land Rover CPO program.
Land Rover Certified Pre-Owned cars must be no more than five years old, and have less than 60,000 miles. Vehicles covered by this program come complete with an extended six year/100,000 Powertrain Limited Warranty.
Inspection
In order to ensure that all Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles are safe to drive, Land Rover subjects all CPO vehicles to a 125-point inspection that includes all the major mechanical, electrical, and exterior systems of the vehicle, as well as a detailing of the interior. If any part does not meet the standards of Land Rover’s inspection technicians, and cannot be repaired or replaced so that it will pass the inspection, that vehicle cannot become a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle.
Warranty
Land Rover CPO vehicles come with a Powertrain Limited Warranty, which covers repairs or replacements of major engine, drive system, and transmission components for six years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
The warranty also includes certain benefits including:
A complete CARFAX vehicle history report including the service record.
A 24-hour roadside assistance program that include emergency towing services to the nearest Land Rover retailer any time of the day, any day of the week.
A reimbursement program that covers the cost of lodging and transportation in the event that your vehicle breaks down due to a warrantable defect away from home.
Pricing
Purchasing a Certified Pre-Owned Land Rover vehicle instead of a used vehicle can make a difference in the price at most dealerships. The bottom line will usually be around 12% higher than a regular “used” vehicle.
For example, at the time of this article in April 2016, a used 2012 Land Rover Range Rover is valued at $38,808 on Kelley Blue Book; the same vehicle is valued at $42,361 under the Land Rover CPO program.
Compare Land Rover to Other Certified Pre-Owned Car Programs
Whether you decide to go with a CPO car, it's always wise to have an independent certified mechanic inspect any used car before buying it. Certified Pre-Owned does not mean the car is in perfect condition, and any used car can come with serious issues that aren't apparent to an untrained eye. If you're in the market to buy a used car, schedule a pre-purchase inspection for total peace of mind.
