Most people love easy and affordable ways to make their car a little bit more fun, which is why personalized license plates have become so easy. Ordering a personalized plate is a quick and affordable way to add some customization to the front and back of your vehicle. With a personalized plate, you can advertise your business, cheer on your favorite sports team, or simply showcase the initials of your child or spouse.
In Wyoming, you can personalize the plate message, though you can’t personalize the plate design (however, you can order a specialty plate design without a personalized message). Still, a custom message is a great addition to your car, and you can order your specialized plate online, in a matter of minutes. Just follow these easy steps:
Part 1 of 3: Choose your personalized license plate
Step 1: Go to the Wyoming personalized plate website: Visit the Wyoming Department of Transportation personalized plate page on their website.
- On this page you can find an overview of ordering a personalized Wyoming license plate. Read the information, then click the button that says “Search for an Available Plate Combination”.
Step 2: Choose a license plate message: Select a personalized license plate message.
Select your county, and then choose the type of vehicle that the license plate will be for.
Type your plate message into the box that says “Plate Combination”.
Tip: There are a number of restrictions that you must follow when creating a personalized plate in Wyoming. You can only letters, numbers, and spaces (no symbols), and the plate can have a maximum of four characters (including spaces). The plate cannot be four characters if all four are the letter “M” and/or the letter “W”. The plate also cannot be entirely numerical, unless it begins with a “0”. If the plate only has one letter, it cannot be the last character on the message.
Warning: License plates that have offensive or crude messages are not allowed. They may show up as available when you check availability online, but your application will be rejected by the Wyoming Department of Transportation.
Step 3: Check the plate message availability: See if your personalized message is available by clicking “Search”.
- If the message is already taken, keep trying until you find an available message that you’re pleased with.
Part 2 of 3: Order your personalized license plate
Step 1: Request your plate: Click “Request” to begin the process of ordering your personalized license plate message.
- You will then need to choose whether or not you would like your plate embossed, which costs an additional $50.
Step 2: Enter your vehicle information: Fill out the form with your vehicle information.
You will need to provide the year, make, and model of your vehicle, as well as the vehicle identification number (VIN), and the title number.
You also need to offer a brief description of what your personalized plate message means, which helps the Department of Transportation decide whether the plate is appropriate or not.
Tip: If you don’t know your VIN, you can find it on the lower driver-side corner of your dashboard, which is easily viewable through the windshield.
Warning: Your vehicle must be registered in the state of Wyoming in order to order a personalized Wyoming license plate.
Step 3: Enter your personal information: Fill out the form with your personal information.
- Enter all the personal information that is asked for. You will need to be the registered owner of the vehicle you are requesting plates for.
Step 4: Pay the fee: Pay the personalized license plate fee.
Use a major credit card to pay for your personalized license plate, which is $30 (or $80 if you are opting for an embossed plate).
Warning: This fee is nonrefundable.
Part 3 of 3: Install your personalized license plates
Step 1: Pick up your personalized plates: Receive your personalized license plates when they’re finished.
One your order has been processed, your plates will be manufactured and sent to the county treasurer for the county you chose. They will notify you that your plates are there, and you can go pick them up.
Tip: If your vehicle currently has normal Wyoming license plates, you will have to surrender them before being given your personalized plates.
Warning: You will not be allowed to have your personalized plates unless all of your registration fees have been paid.
Step 2: Install your plates: Install your plates on the front and back of your vehicle.
As soon as you get your new plates, install them on the front and back of your vehicle.
If you are not comfortable installing the plates by yourself, you can see if someone at the county treasurer can help you. If not, any mechanic can help you out with the job.
Tip: Installing your new license plate is the perfect time to make sure your license plate light is functioning properly. If not, hire a reputable mechanic to replace the light for you.
Personalized license plates are one of the easiest and most affordable ways to add some flair and personality to your vehicle. The fee is minimal, and you can handle the entire ordering process online, which makes it a breeze. If you’ve been looking for a way to make your car a little bit more fun, this could be the perfect option for you.
