Drivers in the market for a used Acura vehicle may want to check out cars under their certified pre-owned program. Many manufacturers have a certified pre-owned (CPO) program, and each one is set up differently. Read on to learn about the specifics of the Acura CPO program.
Acura Certified Pre-Owned cars are always under six years old, have less than 80,000 miles, and come complete with a 12 month/12,000 miles Certified Limited Warranty.
Inspection
Each Acura CPO vehicle must pass a 182-point inspection that includes the following systems:
- Engine
- Valve Train
- Fuel
- Exhaust
- Intake
- Transmission
- Differential
- Universal Joint
- Braking
- Cooling
- Electrical
Warranty
Acura CPO vehicles come with a warranty, which covers repairs or replacement to any part that becomes defective under normal use. Repairs require no deductible. Other warranty benefits include:
Emergency 24-hour Roadside Assistance, which covers battery jump-start, emergency lockout assistance, fuel delivery, emergency towing, and flat tire change.
Computerized map services and trip routing services, which offer detailed trip-routing packages and pre-planned itineraries that help owners spend less time on their vacations.
Trip interruption benefits that reimburse owners up to three consecutive days of lodging and food expenses ($100 per day, up to a total of $300) if their CPO Acura breaks down at least 100 miles from home.
Rental reimbursement, up to $45 per day for six days if a CPO Acura requires repairs.
Hotel directory
Acura Concierge service to help owners purchase emergency airline tickets, receive insurance claim assistance, and get referrals to expert repair services.
Full access to information about the history of the vehicle, including service records.
Extended warranty options
There are also two extended warranty options that CPO vehicle owners can take advantage of, which cover non-powertrain equipment for a total of seven years/100,000 miles, or eight years/120,000 miles, whichever comes first. These extended warranties can only be purchased at the time of vehicle purchase at a dealership.
Pricing
Purchasing a Certified Pre-Owned Acura vehicle does make a difference in the price. The bottom line will usually be around 13% higher than a regular “used” vehicle.
For example, at the time of writing this article in April 2016, a used 2012 Acura MDX SUV that has under 44,000 miles is priced around $27,500 on Edmunds.com; the same vehicle in the Acura CPO program is priced around $31,000.
Compare Acura to other CPO programs
Whether you decide to go with a CPO car, it's always wise to have an independent certified mechanic inspect any used car before buying it. Certified Pre-Owned does not mean the car is in perfect condition, and any used car can come with serious issues that aren't apparent to an untrained eye. If you're in the market to buy a used car, schedule a pre-purchase inspection for total peace of mind.
