What We Like
The more contemporary design when compared with other vehicles in the class paired with lots of tech options make this a fun and balanced option. Add in the upgrades to WiFi access for eight devices and stop and go cruise control that applies the gas and brake when in traffic and you have a car designed for today’s trendier generations.
What Concerns Us
While the 2012 Audi A6 delivers performance, it can’t quite compete with others in the class with its front wheel drive and CVT (continuously variable automatic transmission) on the base model. You’ll also have to adjust to the electric power steering, which seems to have some quirks when compared with the normal hydraulic units.
Available Models
The 2012 Audi A6 is available in two engine options. The first is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that produces 211 horsepower @ 6,500 rpm, 258 ft-lb of torque @ 3,250 rpm and 25/33 mpg city and highway.
The second option is a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 that delivers 310 horsepower @5,55-6,500 rpm, 325 ft-lb of torque @ 2,900-4,500 rpm and 19/28 mpg city and highway fuel economy. This model also includes an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Major Recalls
The 2012 Audi A6 has had two major recalls. The first is due to a leak in the fuel injection system that could cause a fire if parked near an ignition source. The second recall is for the side head curtain air bag. The stitching is incorrect on some models, which could result in the air bag failing to deploy properly.
Common Issues
The most common issues reported for the A6 involve fuel leaks that the owners were told occurred due to rodents eating the lines and the check engine light illuminating when traveling at low speeds.
