Check engine light came on and started blinking then the car lost power and was bogging Mechanic's Assistant: Is the power loss consistent, or does it fluctuate? Fluctuate Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? 2004 nissan maxima Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far? I went to auto zone the first time this happened and it gave codes for throttle sensor and camshaft sensor so I took it back to the dealership I bought it from and they replaced the camshaft sensor only and said it was good the check engine light went off and the cat ran fine for about 2weeks and now it happened again. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Now it even sounds like it's knocking a little bit

I do not know anything about the fees or charge so please if you have any concerns, direct them to customer service. The phone call prompts are automatic and are coming from the web site, not from me. **you can ignore them** I am going to start by asking some basic questions to get up to caught up to where you are at with this situation so I can assist you in a timely manner. I appreciate your time and patience while we are working together on this issue. **is the check engine light back on?**

it's blinking at times and just on all the time a the rest of the time
Automotive Expert
ok, before I can do anything for you, I need to know the fault codes that are stored in the computer

The first time they were the camshaft sensor code and throttle sensor codes I haven't ran it yet this time this just happened earlier today
Automotive Expert
ok, well I need to know. so please have it scanned again so we can get started

I will have to go to the auto zone but I'm scared to drive it there and cause more harm can't I just tell you the symptoms for nowAren't you a certified mechanicWho could diagnose off if symptoms
Automotive Expert
yes I am 35 years. whats that supposed to mean?

Just making sure . Because with all due respect I thought usually a mechanic can diagnose with symptoms only

if your check ngine light is blinking while driving, you have hard misfires. hard misfires can be caused by ant of the coils, [spark plugs](/topics-spark-plug-nissan/), [fuel injectors](/topics-fuel-injector/), catalytic converters, fuel pressure, vacuum leaks, etc...

Correct me if I'm wrong I'm not trying to be rude excuse me this situation just really had me stressed this is my only form of transportation

if your check engine light is blinking while driving, you have hard misfires. hard misfires can be caused by ant of the coils, spark plugs, fuel injectors, catalytic converters, fuel pressure, vacuum leaks, etc... so, unless you want me to guess, which doesn't fix anything, you need to have the car scanned for fault codes. or, you can check for spark, injector pulse, fuel pressure and do a back pressure test which I am certain you do not have the test equipment to do so

because the first time this happened the check engine light went on but did not blink I don't think but it was both the camshaft sensor and the throttle sensor codes that read back and that mechanic only replaced the camshaft sensor and when I looked it up on internet it said that a bad throttle sensor could affect the camshaft sensor is that true can it be that they both need replacementI do not have the equipment for that of course your right but should I drive it like that even to auto zone to get a read up
Automotive Expert
**that's not true. a throttle position sensor will not affect the camshaft sensor. and I would not drive it to AutoZone, I recommend getting a ride to harbor freight or an auto part store and buy your own code reader. they arent that expensive**

How much are they ? So when I look up the symptoms of a faulty throttle sensor on the internet it sounds like it to the Tonce I get a reading how do I get a hold of you and whats the next step just you confirming the codes ..because they do that as well at auto zone they tell you exactly what the codes mean
Automotive Expert
a bad throttle position sensor will not cause the check engine light to flash. you can buy a cheap basic code reader for between 30-60 bucks you can come right back here when you get the codes
Automotive Expert
Thank you for letting me know you no longer need help. I want to make sure you are taken care of. But with no response, I can only give you what I already have. Have a great day. If you need to continue or if there is anything else I can assist with at all, let me know here and I will be happy to assist further!

but when I do drive it 5he check engine light blinks and it boggles and has lost a lot of overall power

but when I drive it the check engine light blinks and blinks and there is a obvious loss of power going on..some boggling
Automotive Expert
I know that. you have hard misfires. that's why I need to know the fault codes.

Hey there. From your description it sounds like it's either a simple starter relay (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/starter-relay-replacement) or an ignition switch (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/ignition-switch-replacement) not making contact. I recommend trying to move the shifter into neutral and see if it will start from there....
