Q: Check engine light on

asked by on April 21, 2016

My check engine light is on p0442 I changed the gas cap and the check engine still on and I checked the fuel pumps there fine what could it be

My car has 52897 miles.

Check Engine Light is on Inspection $94.99 - $114.99 Get a Quote

The code P0442 is for a very small leak in the evaporative system of the fuel tank and its vent system. A leak in the gas cap is the most common cause of this code and the gas cap or the lip where it seals on the tank cannot be damaged in any way. A leak check of the system can be done with a smoke machine that can detect the leaks and then a repair can be done. I would have a certified mechanic, diagnose the Check Engine Light so that only the necessary repairs are made.

Does the 2005 Dodge Stratus SXT 2.4L water pump run on a timing belt or drive belt?
The water pump on this engine is turned by the timing belt for the engine. Anytime you need to replace the water pump (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/water-pump-replacement) you should also replace the timing belt. (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/timing-belt-replacement)

Check for a vacuum leak on the engine. A vacuum leak will cause the engine to rough rough and stall out when the engine is cold or hot. If there is no vacuum leak, then the Mass Air Flow Sensor...
Need to know what speedometer gear is right for my vehicle.
The required gear is determined by the number of speedometer drive gear teeth in the transmission output, the rear end gear ratio (3.89, 3.08, 4.11, etc.), the tire diameter, and the number of RPM's the speedometer needs to "see" at...
